Princeton Review and USA Today Announce Scripps College a “Best Value College” for 2012

CLAREMONT, Calif. (February 7, 2012) — Scripps College has been named one of the “Best Value Colleges” for the third year in a row by The Princeton Review and USA TODAY in its annual study.

“Scripps offers the intimacy and intense focus of a small college campus with the academic and co-curricular offerings of a larger university,” the 2012 study notes, stating the “professors at Scripps are always accessible and consistently excellent.”

While the report applauds the College’s rigorous Core curriculum, its senior thesis requirement, and innovative academic programs such as Money Wise Women, it also doesn’t shy away from the aesthetic advantages Scripps offers its students. “Sumptuous” dorms and the beautiful and “easy to navigate” campus and weather are singled out for attention alongside the extracurricular opportunities and proximity to the other Claremont Colleges.

“It’s been a great experience,” notes one study respondent. “It’s helped me to build confidence in a world that is still male dominated.”

Released today, the “Best Value Colleges” list features 150 schools — 75 public and 75 private colleges and universities. The Princeton Review selected Scripps College based on surveys of administrators and students at more than 650 public and private colleges and universities. Selection criteria covered more than 30 factors in three areas: academics, costs of attendance, and financial aid, using the most recently reported data from each institution for its 2010-2011 academic year.
