Scripps College Hosts "Live Documentary" Utopia in Four Movements
CLAREMONT, Calif. (September 21, 2010) — Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Green will narrate from his documentary Utopia in Four Movements with live musical accompaniment of the film’s soundtrack by musician Dave Cerf at Scripps College’s Garrison Theater on Tuesday, September 21, at 5:30 p.m. The film is presented by the Scripps College Humanities Institute as part of their fall 2010 Film and Performance Series. The event is free and open to the public.
Green’s previous film, The Weather Underground, was nominated for an Academy Award and broadcast nationally on PBS.
Screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Utopia received rave reviews, such as from the Huffington Post: “[Utopia is] the most compelling screening of the entire [Sundance] festival…utterly moving.” And from The Sundance Channel, “Every performance of Utopia is a collective experience, and a singular one, with the potential for human error and human connection.” For more information about the live documentary, visit the Utopia website at http://utopiainfourmovements.com.
The Scripps College Humanities Institute fall 2010 program is “Engagement: Mind, Body, and Soul.” What does it mean to be engaged mind, body, and soul? The seminar will explore these and other questions with scholars, performers, and activists in diverse fields through their lecture, film, and performance series.
