Dean of Faculty Honored with Woman of Power Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. (September 24, 2008) — Scripps College Dean of Faculty Cecilia Conrad was honored with a Women of Power Award at the 2008 annual conference of the National Urban League, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to economics.

The Women of Power award is presented to powerful women who have risen to leadership positions in sports, business, politics, and entertainment. Past Woman of Power honorees include Ursula Burns, President of Xerox, CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and Olympic gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

This year’s conference theme was “Get. Grow. Go!”, which focuses on opportunities to provide economic opportunities to African Americans with provisions to thrive, earn, own and prosper, with particular emphasis on children, jobs, housing and entrepreneurship.
